Record Voting

Modified on Thu, 30 Oct at 4:41 PM

When enabled, users can vote on records they can view. This would be of benefit where a Database is being used as an 'Ideas Portal' or in planning upcoming work that requires input from others in terms of prioritisation feedback.

This article includes instructions on how to enable this feature, as well as detailed information about how it works. Click below to jump to a specific section.

Configuring Record Voting

When creating or editing a Database simple select the 'Allow Voting' setting, and Save.

Note that this can be disabled at any time, which would hide any existing votes from all users. If re-enabled, the previously made votes will be retained.

How to Vote

Each user can add one vote (and one vote only) to each record. Users can however add votes to as many records as they can view. Users can also choose to remove their vote at any time by re-clicking the vote icons.

Note that the user who first saves or submits a record (including submitting it for approval, or saving as a draft) will automatically have their vote registered for that record.

Viewing Votes

The vote count above the icon will display the total number of users who have voted on this item.

Clicking on the tallied number will display a breakdown of who has voted, and when.

You will also notice within this breakdown that you can also see the number of votes made in the previous 24 hours, to help track recent voting trends.

You can access this from the record home location (any view), as well as within an individual record itself, by accessing from the vote count icon top right of screen:

Alternatively the 'Vote Details' tab will also display a summary of who has voted:

When viewing the record home in either List View or Card layout, the records can also be sorted based on the Popularity of votes.

Votes in Dashboards

Item List Widgets that are set to a specific Database (with Voting enable) can also be configured to display the number of votes for records in either the Feature Column, and/or in secondary fields, as another location to help you keep track of popular items.
