How to tell if a Public File CDN Link is being actively used

Modified on Fri, 10 Oct at 12:42 PM

If Public Sharing is enabled on your platform, files within selected folders can be shared and viewed via Public CDN links.

A Resource Public CDN link is considered actively used when it has been loaded at least once from a public location within the last 30 days. The active status applies to either the original Resource CDN link or any of its transformation Preset (Global or Single). The active status does NOT apply to Resources downloaded via a temporary or permanent Public Display link.

There are multiple ways to see whether a resource has been used publicly accessed at least once within the past 30 days; via indicators on each Resource and using Filtering Options in your Resources or Dashboards module.

To note: an item is considered "accessed" whenever the link is requested whether it is by being loaded on a page or downloaded directly. Each download counts towards your public data transfer allowance, which can be monitoring under Admin > Settings.

Indicators on Resources

The Public (Planet) icon indicates that a file can be shared publicly, as indicated below. This feature is setup in your Admin/Folder Settings.

If a File has been accessed or used on any external site via a public link within the last 30 days, this Public icon will turn green.

For example, the image below was posted to Facebook by a member of the Marketing team. That post has been seen in the past 30 days, therefore the icon is green. If it had not been seen in the last 30 days, the icon would appear grey - its default state.

To view more detail about where and how many times the file has been viewed; you can click on the Public (planet) icon. This will load the Public Usage Tracking page. To find out more about that page, click here.

Filter by Public Status

You can also Filter by whether a Resource Public CDN link is active or not. This can be done in the Resources Filtering Options panel and in Dashboards.

Resources Filtering Options

Once you open the Filtering Options panel on the left of your screen, open the Custom Rules section at the bottom of the list. If you select Public Status, you can then choose to filter by either Active or Inactive.

  • Active refers to any file with a public link that has been loaded in the last 30 days (it will also have the green planet icon - as above).
  • Inactive will include any resource with a public link that has not been loaded in the last 30 days.

Once you have selected your required option, the page will automatically update to view those items which are either active or inactive (depending on your selections).

Dashboards Filtering Options

To gain an overview of the resources which are being accessed publicly, you can also create widgets with filtering options based on the Public Status of an item.

When creating a widget (either List or Calculation widgets are supported), add a Filtering condition,  select Public Status and either Active or Inactive to create a widget that will display resources matching the selected criteria. This could be useful if you need to identify which images are currently live and being used publicly as a Public CDN link.
